This method assumes that the assay results to be combined are independent, but no assumption is made on homogeneity. Instead a test is performed, and the appropriate weighted method is chosen based on the result of the test.

A p-value is obtained by comparing to the distribution. If the critical p-value set by the user is higher than the test result, then the method assuming homogeneity is chosen. Otherwise the method assuming heterogeneity is used.
